Motivation, Accomplishments and Challenges

It is now the end of January. The end of that first month of the New Year Resolution. How is going for you? Have you made progress? Still reaching of those goals or needing a boost in motivation?

Even if you are beginning to struggle, don’t give up! Go back to those goals you had in the beginning.

Were they too broad? If so, break them down into smaller goals with dates to be completed.

Did you meet the goals and get bored? Time to up the challenge. When you reach a goal, make a new one. But always WRITE IT DOWN! In a place you can revisit. Personally, I use notes in my phone to keep things easily accessible.

Now that we have that review covered, let’s evaluate that goal setting and motivation.

What is it you really want?

If it is really a health oriented goal that you want to sustain and not make again next year? Health doesn’t happen overnight or in a month. You can’t just throw everything “bad” out and restrict yourself from living and get long term success. Sorry, but I need to be honest with you.

Long term success is about making one change at a time, making it a habit and then adding the next. Each step gets easier as you see more results and feel progress. It takes several weeks to break a habit. And moderation is the key. Be flexible. Don’t beat yourself up. You can’t get to the top of the stairs without taking all of the steps between the bottom and the top.

Also, don’t make goals for someone else’s satisfaction. Has to be all you. Support systems are different. You need a person to push you when you need it and let you rest when you need to. A balance.  Even I, as the medical provider give patients 3-6 months to improve their health status with lifestyle changes before getting tough. Just as I have given you the whole month of January to motivational before diving into the nitty gritty of the real Health Interventions and the information that you need to be truly healthy. I have done this long enough to know that the in the beginning there may be a bit of tunnel vision with reaching goals. Now, you are more likely to actually absorb the information I have lined up to help you throughout 2023 and beyond.

If you didn’t get an evaluation yet, please do. Make sure your goals are based on you health needs so that as we move forward you can use the information I will be sharing to your advantage. Not everything will apply to you as an intervention, which is actually very important. For example, iron may help some and hurt others and not everything you read is the complete picture. You are welcome to book online at NPClinincOnlne or in person at one of our offices: Prestige Family Health Care in Maryland, Spring Valley Family Care in West Virginia.

Ready, set… revisit those goals, make any updates, check that motivation.. and we will be moving into the information you need to make the lasting changes you are looking for!
