You may think of saunas as hot and steamy, often used to sweat out toxins and in attempts to lose weight. We are talking about a different type of sauna for our Integrative Cancer Treatment. Infared saunas are a bit different and actually quite effective in the integrative approach to cancer treatment. Infared saunas heat the body slowly and gently.

Infared sauna is used in Integrative Cancer Treatment for a number of reasons. Increasing temperatures internally improve circulation and lymphatic drainage. Cancer cells are sensitive to heat. Improving circulation with infrared sauna therapy improves and supports detoxification. Detoxification removes toxins from the body. Improved circulation improves oxygen delivery to cells.

The parasympathetic nervous sytstem is also stimulated with sauna use, which means relaxation. Relaxation is one if the hardest things to “make” yourself do! Relaxation and stress reduction hav been shown to improve cancer survival.

White blood cells and antioxidants are increased with use of infrared sauna. White cells and antioxidants boost the immune system. Natural killer cells and T-Lymphocytes are stimulated with increased body temperature, which promote anti-tumor activity.

The body becomes less acidic with increasing heat and detoxification. An alkaline state is best for stopping cancer cells from replicating.

What about the cancer cells that already exist?

Photoimmunotherapy (Infared Sauna) works by binding to cancer cells. When near-infrared light is applied, cancer cells swell and burst, resulting in death of the cancer cell.

It is recommended to have infrared sauna use at least 2 times per week, up to 4 times per week for 20-30 minutes. Infrared sauna therapy is incorporated into the Prestige Integrative Cancer Treatment Program.
