What is Healthy?
As we move into the Health Interventions journey, it is important to think about the meaning of healthy. What exactly is it? Is it the same for everyone? Of course not!
You have to look at where you are in your life and focus that answer from within. (Remember, I don’t like cookie cutter!) Don’t just give the answer that you “think” is right. For example… in my 20’s, I thought I was “healthy” when I could complete my Tae Bo workouts (for the young-ins out there, it was kickboxing) and not feel like I would die. I did’t think about cholesterol or blood pressure, or even what I was eating, my only gauge was how much I could do in a workout. In my 30’s I started to think that healthy included exercise and maybe looking at my diet. I gave up sugary beverages and tried to have a few less sweets. Maintaining a weight that made me happy with myself, and fitting into my clothes wasn’t so hard until after 35. When I had to actually start making an effort to maintain my weight I started looking at nutrition, not “diet”, and redefining healthy again. Now, I am in my 40’s. Oh boy! What a different outlook on healthy. So, now healthy is focusing on nutrition, exercise and enter disease prevention. (Don’t forget I am a medical provider.) I am no longer just thinking about the clothing I can fit into. I see the possible outcomes of self neglect. I am now defining healthy in my 40’s includes being physically healthy, working out 4-5 times a week, eating a well balanced plant based diet (because I know the research and benefits), and adding more ways to slow down a bit to breathe, reflect and enjoy time with my family and friends. Not just run, run, run and not realize where a whole month of time has gone. Now, don’t think I am starting to think about “being old”. I will never be “old”. I plan to hold onto myself and vitality for as long as I possibly can. I am just a bit wiser now. I believe there comes a fabulous time in life where you are old enough to look back and see the path that has gotten you to where you are and look toward the future of putting all of that knowledge and experience to good use.
Now, as a medical provider, I have to add more on the disease management and hopefully prevention! This is the part about diabetes, high cholesterol , heart disease, obesity, chronic fatigue, chronic pain… I see it everyday in my practice and as I have said previously, it is starting younger and younger and impacting so many more. Following the Health Interventions program can help you to reverse the disease process, lose weight and feel so much better. I have done it. I have helped many do it. It doesn’t happen without changes. It isn’t always easy. It probably seems so overwhelming to you, with so many things coming at you that you don’t know what’s right or wrong or how to start. Or you think you’re doing it right and being “healthy” as defined by the mass marketing and media campaigns, but not seeing results. That’s where I come in. In the program I explain what the fads are, what they were intended to be in some cases, what the people trying to trick you (marketing campaigns) have turned them into and why you aren’t getting “healthier” with them.
I have many of the pieces to being healthy outlined from much research and scientific evidence. (I am a nerd who likes that kind of stuff.) I am going to share it with you as we move forward in this journey of in Health Interventions. I am taking the information to make sustainable, lifelong changes, to get you healthy at whatever stage you are in, not fads . I hope that you share the information with family and friend that you love to make a difference in their lives too. One change at a time. Health is a journey and changes as you change and go through life. So, use this resource to make those changes and help you through your own personal journey to being healthy.
Now, that I have shared my personal thoughts on healthy, I hope that you can collect yours. What has to happen to make you feel like you are healthy? Write it down! I hope I can help you make it happen.
